The Fishers of Men Ministry was birthed in Pastor Shedrick’s heart in 1999. Not in the pursuit of the promise but the Promiser. Pastor Shedrick and Sister Mary’s faith would require patience for eight years. During this period God continually spoke to Pastor’s heart concerning matters that would be fitting for this season.
In June 2007 God spoke once again to Pastor Shedrick’s heart and told him it was time. With much hesitancy (Pastor only wanted to be sure God has spoken) he obeyed the command of His Father, and in August 2007 Fishers of Men Tabernacle opened inside of Grant’s Funeral Home chapel in Port Allen, Louisiana with approximately 7 members. We remained at that location for 10 months as God multiplied the church. In May 2008 Fishers of Men Tabernacle leased and renovated an abandoned service station at 841 Lobdell Hwy South in Port Allen, Louisiana.
The church purchased approximately 9 acres of property located at 3031 Hwy. 190 in Port Allen where we have built our current spacious sanctuary and the adjacent Fellowship Center. Fishers of Men Tabernacle congregation continues to grow physically and most importantly spiritually. We give God the praise for what He has done, and we thank Him for our newest arrival – YOU. WELCOME TO THE FAMILY!!!
What we believe!
The Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative written Word of God. (Ps. 119; Mat. 4:4; Lk. 24:27)
There is one God, eternally coexistent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. (1 Jn. 5:7)
In the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to Glory to rule a thousand years. (Jn. 1:1-4; Eph. 2:13-18; Rev. Chpts. 19-20)
In the blessed hope – the rapture of the church at Christ’s coming. (1 Thess. 4:13-18)
The only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Christ. (Rom. 5:1; Eph. 2:8-9, 13-18)
Regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation. (Jn. 3:5-8; Titus 3:5)
The redemptive work of Christ on the Cross provides healing of the human body in answer to believing prayer. (Ex. 15:25-26; James 5:14-15; 1 Pet. 2:24)
The baptism with the Holy Spirit, according to Acts 2:4; is given to believers who ask for it. (Acts 2:4, 10:44-46; 19:1-7)
In the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy life. (Rom. 6:3-14; 8:1-2,11)
In the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to Everlasting Life and other to Everlasting damnation. (Rev. 20:5-6, 11-15)
FISHERS OF MEN TABERNACLE COVENANT
Having received Christ as my Lord and Savior and been baptized, and being in agreement with Fishers of Men’s statements, and structure, I now feel led by the Holy Spirit to unite with the Fishers of Men church family. In doing so, I commit myself to God and to the other members to do the following:
I will protect the unity of my church
…by acting in love toward other members
…by refusing to gossip
…by following the leaders
“Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.”
(Romans 14:19)
“Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.” 1 Peter 1:22
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
Ephesians 4:29
“Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.” Hebrews 13:17
I will share the responsibility of my church
…by praying for its growth
…by sharing my faith with the world
…by warmly welcoming those who visit
“To the church… We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers.
1 Thessalonians 1: 1-2
“Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that my house will be full.” Luke 14:23
“Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.”
Romans 15:7
I will serve the ministry of my church
…by discovering my gifts and talents
…by being equipped to serve by my pastor and leaders
…by developing a servant’s heart
“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve other, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:10
“It was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelist, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” Ephesians 4:11-12
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interest, but also to the interest of others… Your attitudes should be the same as that of Christ Jesus, who made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant…” “Philippians 2:3-4, 7
I will support the testimony of my church
…by attending faithfully
…by living the Godly life
…by giving regularly
“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25
“Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.”
Philippians 1:27
“On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made.”
1 Corinthians 16:2
“A tithe of everything from the land… belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.”
Leviticus 27:30
